LiDAR floor plan
On a LiDAR-equipped iPhone, ARRF can reconstruct the space you walked as a floor plan and show it on the Results screen — a top-down 2D map and an explorable 3D dollhouse, with the floor painted by your Wi-Fi signal.
Enable it
Section titled “Enable it”Floor-plan reconstruction is controlled by Settings → Survey & capture → Floor-plan reconstruction, which is on by default. When it’s off, the AR session runs the plain scene reconstruction and no mesh is captured or saved.
Changes take effect on the next survey start.
Generate a plan
Section titled “Generate a plan”Just run a survey with the toggle on on a LiDAR iPhone. As you walk, ARRF captures the scene; when you tap Stop, it snapshots the LiDAR mesh and downsamples it (off the main thread, behind a brief “Generating floor plan…” overlay) into a compact surface. The plan then appears as a Floor plan card on the Results screen.
A plan is shown whenever the walk captured a surface — even a bare footprint with no readings is a legitimate result.
What the plan shows
Section titled “What the plan shows”ARRF renders the sensed surfaces directly (walls, doors, windows, floor, furniture) as a chunky voxel structure rather than guessing idealised room outlines. Key ideas:
- Structure is greyscale — walls and fixtures are told apart by lightness, not colour, so colour is free for signal.
- The floor is the heatmap — floor near your walk is painted by the selected Wi-Fi metric; floor you didn’t cover stays neutral (honestly uncovered, not invented).
- Walk samples glow — your readings render as glowing dots/cubes over the structure.
2D map
Section titled “2D map”The Floor plan card shows a top-down column silhouette. Tap it (expand glyph) to open the full-screen 2D view with pinch-to-zoom and pan.
Per-level split
Section titled “Per-level split”If your survey climbed more than one storey, a segmented storey switcher appears:
- Both — all levels stacked.
- Ground / Upper for two storeys (or L1, L2, … for three or more).
The selected level is shared between the inline card and the full-screen view. Single-storey surveys show no switcher.
3D dollhouse
Section titled “3D dollhouse”Tap 3D on the Floor plan card to open the full-screen dollhouse: the sensed surfaces as greyscale voxel blocks, a translucent slab per detected level, the floor painted by signal, and glowing signal-sample cubes. AP signs appear as labelled posts with their uncertainty halos. Drag to orbit, pinch to zoom, and use the Shade by picker to recolour the floor and cubes by a different metric. The 3D view is SceneKit-based, so it renders from a saved survey too.
Export the plan
Section titled “Export the plan”Use the Image button on the Floor plan card to save the 2D plan as a PNG. Floor-plan pages (one per storey when multi-level) are also included in the PDF report.
