AP locations and roaming
As you survey, ARRF works out where each access point physically is and marks where your phone roamed between them.
AP location signs
Section titled “AP location signs”When AP location signs are on (Settings → Display, on by default), ARRF floats a sign in the AR scene at each AP’s estimated position. The estimate comes from the cloud of samples that AP served: it starts as a wide ”?” halo and tightens as more samples land, recomputing as you walk.
Tap a sign to open the AP card. Its Location section shows:
- Position — the confidence, or “pinned by you” if you’ve pinned it.
- Uncertainty — the estimate’s radius (
± X.X m). - Samples — how many readings from this AP fed the estimate.
- Path-loss n — the fitted path-loss exponent.
If an AP has served no samples yet, the card says “No samples from this AP yet — walk where it serves you.”
Pin an AP by hand
Section titled “Pin an AP by hand”If you know exactly where an AP is, pin it for a precise position:
- In the survey, tap the Place APs chip (map-pin icon) to open the placement sheet.
- Stand directly under the AP.
- Tap Pin AP here.
A manual pin overrides the auto-estimate. To go back to the estimate, open the AP card and tap Clear manual pin.
The AP card also carries AP vitals (per-radio airtime, TX power vs EIRP, client count, uptime, PoE), Wiring (switch, port, VLAN, and PoE from LLDP), and Relationships (channel and BSS-colour conflicts) — all read live from the AP over SSH.
Roam markers
Section titled “Roam markers”When your phone hands off from one AP to another mid-walk, ARRF records a roam. With Roam markers on (Settings → Display, or the HUD flag chip, on by default) it draws a labelled post at each handoff in the AR scene.
Roams are always recorded and exported even with the markers hidden — the toggle only affects what’s drawn. Roaming events also feed the survey grade and the reports: see Results and the survey grade.
