Find my device
A survey follows one Wi-Fi client: your iPhone. Find my device works out which client in your APs’ tables is actually this phone, so the survey and the signal readout track the right device.
Open it from Settings → My device → Find my device, from the Survey lobby, or as Find Me Again over a running survey.
Three ways to confirm
Section titled “Three ways to confirm”ARRF tries the strongest method available and lets you fall back:
- IP auto-match (silent, highest confidence) — ARRF matches your iPhone’s own Wi-Fi IPv4 against the APs’ IP-to-MAC tables. When it matches, it confirms outright with “Matched by your IP address” — no waving needed. This needs the phone to be on the same subnet the APs serve.
- Pick from the list — ARRF shows every client the APs currently see, asks “Which one is you?”, and highlights the likely candidate (iOS randomised “private” addresses are flagged). Tap the one that’s you.
- Wave to confirm — hold the phone and swing it side to side. ARRF correlates the wave against the per-reading signal wiggle the AP measures and returns Found you or Not confirmed. The prompt reads “Wave your phone side to side until this fills.”
Why the target can go stale
Section titled “Why the target can go stale”iPhones default to a randomised (“private”) Wi-Fi address per network. Find my device happily targets it — but if iOS is set to rotate the address (or you roam), the saved target can go stale and readings stop. Re-run Find my device; the AR view offers a Find Me Again prompt when it detects this.
You can also type the MAC by hand under Settings → My device → Advanced, but the guided flow is the reliable path.
Limits
Section titled “Limits”- IP auto-match works only when the phone is on the same subnet the APs’ tables cover; otherwise ARRF falls back to the wave.
- Waving needs real device motion — it isn’t available in the iOS Simulator.
- If more than one device moves during a wave, ARRF asks you to “hold others still and try again.”
- The wave/IP match runs over SSH against reachable APs; it isn’t part of the demo.
