Try it with no hardware (Demo mode)
ARRF ships with a simulated survey so you can explore the whole AR experience — cubes, the floor plan, and the Results grade — without any hardware on hand, RUCKUS or otherwise. The demo is always free: it needs no trial and never uses up one of the trial’s surveys.
What does Demo mode simulate?
Section titled “What does Demo mode simulate?”By default the demo simulates one virtual Wi-Fi network anchored near your starting position. It runs the real survey pipeline on synthesised data: the network gets slower and lossier as you walk away from your start point, and about 9 metres out the phone roams to a second virtual access point (and back again once you return within about 7 metres). Cubes drop, the floor plan builds, and Stop produces a genuine Results screen — the same as a live survey, just with simulated measurements.
Demo mode always runs in Continuous capture (hands-free), so you just walk.
Can the demo show AP-measured signal too?
Section titled “Can the demo show AP-measured signal too?”Yes. Under Where, the demo card has an Include AP data toggle, off by default: “Also simulate an access point’s own readings (signal, SNR, band), as a vendor integration adds them.” With it on, the demo adds one virtual access point called Demo AP. The virtual AP is anchored a short distance ahead of and above your starting position; its signal follows a free-space path-loss model, so you start in the strong-signal “hot” zone and the reading fades as you walk away, and AP auto-locate converges on it.
If Experience tests (beta) is off in Settings, the demo is this AP-only version.
How to start the demo
Section titled “How to start the demo”On a fresh install the Survey lobby’s source is already Demo, so you can just tap Start Survey.
If you’ve already picked another source and want the demo back:
- Open the Survey tab.
- Tap the Where card and choose Demo — labelled “Simulated walk — one virtual network, no hardware” (or “…one virtual AP…” with Include AP data on).
- Tap Start Survey and walk.
The lobby explains the mode inline: “No special hardware needed. Start and walk — a simulated network gets slower and lossier as you move away, cubes drop just like a live survey, and the phone roams to a second access point.”
Switching to a real survey
Section titled “Switching to a real survey”Tap the Where card and pick Any Wi-Fi, a RUCKUS One venue, or RUCKUS APs by IP. The moment you choose one, the demo switches off and your real source persists across launches. Real surveys need the free trial or the unlock. See Surveying any Wi-Fi network.
