Log an insulin dose
To log a dose, open the Add tab, switch the segment to Insulin, spin the wheel to the number of units you gave, and tap Save Insulin Dose. The dose is written immediately, stamped now unless you changed the time, tagged with the insulin type currently selected in Settings, and the last-dose strip at the top updates. Logging a dose also silences a daily insulin reminder due within the next hour — see Reminders.
The dose wheel
Section titled “The dose wheel”| Range | 0.5 to 99.0 units |
| Step | 0.5 units |
| Prefill | Your last dose for this cat, rounded down to the nearest half unit; 1.0 if there is none |
| Display | Always one decimal (2.0 units) |
A wheel rather than a keypad because a dose is one of a small set of values, and a wheel cannot produce a number you did not see. The prefill rounds down, never to nearest — an imported 2.3-unit dose prefills as 2.0, not 2.5 — because over-dosing is the dangerous direction; you can always spin it up. What is saved is exactly what the wheel shows.
Doses off the half-unit grid (0.25 u, 2.3 u) can only enter the app through CSV import; they display with two decimals where needed and export as such.
Insulin type
Section titled “Insulin type”The dose is stamped with the Insulin Type shown below the wheel — the one selected in Settings › Insulin Settings (default Lantus (Glargine)), or your custom name if you chose Custom. You cannot change it here; the row is read-only with an ⓘ button beside it that opens the Insulin Profile sheet for that type (onset, peak and duration in hours, and a key to the activity chart). If you switch insulins, change the setting first, then log.
The recorded type matters later: the insulin activity curve models each dose with the insulin it was recorded under, so past doses keep their shape when you change the setting.
Time and notes
Section titled “Time and notes”Same as for readings: the Time picker is pre-set to now and only used if you change it (no future times; resets after each save), and Notes (Optional) takes up to 500 characters. Switching to the Glucose segment and back keeps your selection.
”Check before saving” warnings
Section titled “”Check before saving” warnings”Before writing, SugarPaws shows one Check before saving dialog listing every applicable warning, ending Double-check before saving., with Save Anyway and Cancel. Two conditions trigger it:
| Warning | When |
|---|---|
| You logged an insulin dose N minutes ago. Giving insulin twice can cause dangerously low blood sugar. | The most recent dose for this cat is within 60 minutes of this one’s time (either side — a backdated entry counts too). Less than a minute ago when under a minute. |
| N units is an unusually high dose for a cat. | More than 15 units. Typical feline doses are 1–6 units. |
Both can appear in the same dialog. Confirming one never skips the other.
